3rd Grade Tissue Vases

In third grade art club, we attempted to make tissue paper collaged vases as our last project.  It turned out to be quite difficult to do the short period we have for art club.  However, the kids continue to amaze me with some amazing results in a short amount of time.  This is yet another technique that could garnish some really fantastic results with more time.  Next time, tissue paper vases and acrylic skins will have to be tackled when more time is available!
Sadly, my fall art club has come to an end.  For my third graders, we will have a new group of students meeting for the spring.  It will be exciting to see what my next group creates!  I hope my fall group had a great time in art club.

4th Grade- Acrylic Skins Completed

So, we used the acrylic skins we made to make mini collages.  We cut up the skins, placed them on a disposable palette and covered them with gloss medium.  After a day or two of drying, we peeled them up and they were ready to go!  Awesome technique, just wish we had more time in art club to really explore this technique.

Acrylic Skins

During 4th grade art club last week, we made a bunch of acrylic skins.  This is the how to video:

Blick How to Video

Next art club, we will be making our skins into a piece of art.  You will see from the video there are lot of things you can do with the skins!

Final Step of Marbling

Fourth grade has finally made it to the final day of our marbling project!  After two days of marbling (two days of messy fun!) and two days working on creating silhouettes, we have finally finished (and with great results, I might add!).  I was so busy helping students that I didn't get many photos and a bunch I took are not on my camera (strange!), but here are the ones I got.  Enjoy!

Pastel on Velour Paper, Day 1

Today, during thrid grade art club, we started using chalk pastels on velour paper.  This is a new technique for me and the kids.  I have always wanted to try it and so glad we are doing it during art club.  Today, we only got to sketch our pumpkins.  Next week, we will be on to shading!  Look for our final results next week.
Here are a few of our sketches...

Marbling Take Two!

Yesterday, we took our second stab at marbling with shaving cream.  I think it was even better the second time.  There was more time for experimenting since we didn't need to spend much time on learning the technique.  This time I instructed the students to just make designs without trying to make it look like "something".  Next art club, we are going to use a piece of the marbled paper to serve as a background for a landscape silhouette project.  We had some fantastic results!

Pumpkins and Spiders in Model Magic

Happy Halloween!  In celebration of this favorite children's holiday, during art club the students had a choice to make either a pumpkin or a spider from model magic.  For most of my third graders, this was their first time using model magic and they loved it!  Third grade art club is for a really short period of time, but the kids did a great job.  I would love to see what they would come up with if they had more time!

Marbling with Shaving Cream!

That's right, today we marbled paper using shaving cream!  So fun!  I was definitely a little skeptical about give this method a try, but I have to say, the kids came up with some pretty impressive designs- much better than my samples.  It was extremely messy but perfect for art club.  My fourth grade art clubers asked if we could it again next week....I'll have to think about that one!
Look for close ups of the marbled paper coming soon.

Symmetrical Blob Bugs

So for the past two sessions of art club, third grade has been working on creating symmetrical "blob" bugs.  We had learned about symmetry in art class, so this was a fun extension of what we had already created in class!  Art clubers squished paint between folded paper during the first session and then added details with markers and wiggle eyes during the second session.  Check out their awesome creations!

Model Magic and Wire with 4th grade

So, this week I was out on fourth grade art club day. Bummer.  However, they were left int he capable hands of Miss T and created some very creative sculptures using model magic and wire (the same materials we used during out last art project).  I am posting a few photos so please check out their work!
Very creative!
Next week, we are going to try our hand at marbeling paper.  Very exciting and a little scary!

First Day of Art Club!

Our first day of art club with 4th grade was a success!  Can't wait to see what this wonderful group of students will create this year!
Third grade will have their first art club meeting on Tuesday.  Due to large numbers, third grade will have two groups for art club.  So, I will just be meeting with our Fall group on Tuesday.  I will see the Spring group starting in January!

About Me

In case you don't know already, I am Mrs. Stormes.  I've been teaching art at Leib for 10 years now!  It has been a fast ten years!  I love my job...what's better than getting to play with kids and art supplies all day?! I have always wanted to start an art club, so I am super excited that it is actually happening this year.  I am really looking forward to working on more complicated art projects with my art club students.  It will be exciting to try out some techniques that we normally don't have time to touch during art class.
And the picture is of my son, Eli.  He just turned one and he makes smile everyday!  This is a picture from our trip to the beach this summer.  We loved the beach!

Leib Art Club!

Yea!  It is really happening. Leib is going to have an art club!  And not just one art club, two art clubs!  We are going to have an art club for each 3rd and 4th grades.  I hope to have our first meeting be September 28.  That is day E, so that will be 4th grade art club day.  3rd grade club will meet on the following C day.  Look for future posts to see pictures of what we are working on in art club!
